Tips on Maintaining a Healthy Smile, Teeth and Gums.

A healthy smile can transform your life in terms of positive mindset, visual appearance and improving your oral health. To achieve this, you have to take care of your teeth and gums. Cleaning your mouth is a simple routine but it can help prevent your dental problems.

Brush your teeth at night before you go to bed and one time during the day using fluoride toothpaste. Brushing your teeth every day will remove plaque which can lead to teeth decay and gum disease. Even though most people usually brush their teeth on a regular basis, they don’t clean between their teeth.

To clean between teeth use floss or interdental brushes at least once a day. You should also develop good eating habits and avoid taking sugary drinks or food. Starchy or sugary foods usually leave your body prone to tooth cavity.

It is good to take water over sugary foods and drinks since it converts to acids inside your mouth leading to tooth decay. It is also very important to take foods rich in calcium including yogurt, cheese, and soybeans to make your teeth strong and healthy.

To prevent gum disease remove bits of food and plaque around your teeth to stop inflammation of your gums leading to infection. If plaque is left on the teeth it may harden into tartar which releases harmful poison which may irritate and inflame your gums.

The gums will pull away from the teeth and infect gaps between teeth. If gum disease is not treated fast enough, it may destroy the bone supporting the teeth and make your teeth become loose and fall out.

Ask your dentist to recommend to you the type of toothbrush you can use. It is a good idea for adults to look for small or medium sized headed toothbrush. If the head is small enough, it can reach all the parts of your mouth especially those areas which are difficult to reach. The brush should also have soft or medium bristles which cannot hurt your teeth and gums.

Ensure that you go for regular dental checkups including examination and cleanings as this will protect you from worsening dental condition if there is any as it will be treated earlier enough. Go for comprehensive examination at least once every 6 months. Dental examinations involve analysis of any potential oral hygiene problems.

Avoid smoking as it increases the risk or gum disease and tooth loss. Smoking can also make your smile unhealthy hence making you less attractive. Take water or mouthwash after meals to ensure you kill germs and help minimize bad breath.

To know how your breath smells, lick your wrist and let it dry before smelling it. If it has an unpleasant smell, then that is exactly how your breath smells and you have to do something about it.

Oral care will help you prevent any cavities and keep your smile looking beautiful. All you need is to take a few minutes taking care of your teeth and gums. You also have to make sure that you use your teeth for chewing and not for other purposes.
