What To Do When The World Makes You Mad

by Graham Maxey

 1. Slow down - Give yourself a chance to think, not just react.

 2. Remember who you are - Don’t settle for being a particular self-image; you are also your values, your higher self, your chance to be a positive difference in the world.

 3.
Get into your ADULT mode of thinking - It’s the only tool you’ve got that will allow you to negotiate with people.

 4. Don’t even bother to think about “what’s fair” - The only consideration that makes any difference is “what works.”

 5. Notice everyone’s positive intentions - They will seem more human to you and less in need of your personal intervention in their lives.

 6. Notice your own hurts and fears - Concentrate on self-comforting and self encourag-ing.  You can take care of a lot of anger this way.

 7. When you talk to people, remember the three “hoops” you need to get your communication through: 1) they agree with the statement; 2) it’s beneficial to them; 3) it’s said in action words that the unconscious can understand.

 8. Don’t allow yourself to be hooked into mutual manipulation - The only way to win that game is not to play.

 9. Practice self-calming techniques regularly - Spend time in meditation, affirmation, and recreation.

10. Plan to get all of your needs met - Don’t put off things thinking you can get by.  You are vitally important to the health of this planet.  Don’t skimp on someone who is means so much.

11. Live more and more of your life less and less on the “surface” - stay in touch with the mystery, the wonder, and the awe that is in every moment.  Don’t worry so much about understanding it, just make sure you appreciate it.

12. Make a decision to trust life - You won’t get out alive, but you will get out of a lot of wasted effort.
